happy 600res pilots line-up

Once again we were able to fly five rounds during the season of this now well established electric thermal competition. Besides flying at Cashmoor we were fortunate to be able to hold rounds at three other local club flying sites, Salisbury MFC, Tarrant Hinton and Marlborough MFC. Throughout the season a total of 16 pilots entered the Round Robin series, seven of whom were WMAC members. The contest consists of one flight against each entrant throughout the day and the number of individual wins determines the winner on the day.

Five rounds were held with the best four scores counting towards the overall placings. The flying order and scoring system are computer generated, thanks to Rick Churchill, a whizz kid with Microsoft Excell spreadsheets. This, together with a 12v 240v inverter and printer keeps track of the round robin scoring and produces a print out at the beginning of the competition for every flight of every round. It was universally approved by everyone and was instrumental in the smooth running of the competition, thanks Rick.

This was the first season using the identical new lighter power train of a brushless motor, ESC, folding propeller and battery pack. This is a simple and inexpensive way of ensuring equal launch heights, when the thermal contest begins. (A full list of the rules can be found on my web site: www.wessexaml.co.uk )

The winner of each round this year has received a Royal Doulton wall plaque from the Alex Perkins collection, donated in his memory by his widow.

Postal Series

In addition a monthly postal series is held from April to September, using the same models, flights being made on a day of the pilots choosing each month. 14 pilots took part this year utilising three different flying sites with the aim of achieving three 10 minute flights in a one hour time slot. This is not as easy as it sounds although Rick Churchill flew two 10 minute maxes only to fall woefully short with his third flight.

andrew fellows 2015 winner2015 has been a superb season with great camaraderie amongst the pilots, along with co-promoter James Parry we look forward to next season when we plan to run the same series during 2016, any new pilots wishing to join in will be welcomed.

Our thanks go to all who helped with the time keeping, the various clubs for allowing the use of their flying sites and to all who burnt the sausages on the BBQ.
