Wessex AML 600RES

Postponed****************

After consultation with several competitors I have reluctantly taken the decision to POSTPONE the first round of our Wessex AML Round Robin Low-Cost 600RES electric thermal gliding competition on Sunday 26 April at Cashmoor.

The forecast is for  strong northerly winds and maybe even some rain.

We already have the reserve date of Sunday 13 September at Cashmoor agreed with Wimborne MAC

Round 2 now becomes round 1 and is scheduled for Sunday 17 May at Blandford. Let's hope for better weather.

RAF Ibsley Revival 2015

Notice of Cancellation.  Thanks to the Bournemouth Air Festival moving their event forward so that it now clashes with this event, the organisers have had to take the difficult decision to postpone the plans for the time being. The RAF Ibsley Revival will therefore NOT be taking place this year although they are looking at alternative dates.

WimborneMAC have supported this event previously with a static display of warbirds and Flight Simulator. The event is held at Moyles Court School , formerly in wartime,  RAF Ibsely HQ, where time turned back to 1943 with everyone dressed as per the era, either in uniform or civvies and vintage cars and trucks.

Meanwhile, they will be exhibiting at Lyndhurst Community Centre on Saturday 25 April along with the Friends of the New Forest Airfields, where they will be running an exclusive Ibsley Flight Simulator – a virtual experience where you can ‘fly’ an aircraft of your choice over wartime Ibsley and beyond.

Mike Darnell

We are sad to advise the membership of the death of Senior Member Mike Darnell on Saturday February 7th after a short illness.

Mike has been a member of the WMAC twice. Mike, his father Des and his son Adam were very active in the days of our flying site at Ashley Heath but left the club, joining the Avon Club when our use of the Ashley field came to an end.   Des is no longer well enough to fly  but, upon the closure of the Avon Club site when it’s owners converted the land into a solar farm, we were pleased to welcome Mike and Adam back when they rejoined us in mid 2014.

We offer our condolences to his wife Susan and son Adam.

Photo on right shows Mike with his Corsair last year, 2014.  It was a maiden flight of this twin 60cc gas warbird.  After some stating issues caused by an oversight in the throtle config, it started easily and had a successful first flight much to his and our joy of this classic and popular aircraft.
