Sunday Access to field from 08:30, Pilot briefing at 09:45 -10:00. Camping available from Saturday, some outside contestants/pilots may arrive Saturday (to camp) and familiarise themselves with the flying field on Saturday (contestants only test flights/club general flying etc). Portaloo only available and no piped/pottable water available.
Contest will end when at least two rounds have been flown by all, with a shortish break at lunchtime to allow the judges a rest and some food/drink. The plan is to provide a BBQ at lunchtime (usual contributions welcomed). Also the usual drinks available all day. Spectators welcome.
Club members who wish to enter the contest will not pay the £25 entry fee. The flying comp will be to the BMFA. Scale Tech Committee rules, available on their website to download. Entrants are expected to print off two copies of the BMFA Scale TC score sheet and complete it with their own and model details to bring along to the event. Those who have not had their models pre judged for static can only enter the 'Flying Only' contest but their model must be a reasonable representation of a full size prototype that has flown, as judged by the Contest Director.
BMFA SCale Flying Only Rules
There is no Builder of the Model rule for Flying Only Scale events any model can be entered including ARTF’s as long as it is a reasonable scale representation of a full-sized aircraft. The competition is judged, as the title suggests, just on the flying of the aircraft with no static element. Would be competitors do need to be aware however, that a penalty would be applied to models of aircraft that would normally retract their undercarriage in flight, if the model’s undercarriage does not similarly retract. A lesser penalty may apply to the absence of flaps for landing and take-off.
The pilot must perform ten manoeuvres, four compulsory ones, Take-Off, Figure Eight, Descending Circle and Landing, plus six manoeuvres chosen from the list of permissible manoeuvres that are suited to the prototype which has been modelled. These manoeuvres can be seen by downloading the BMFA R/C Scale Flying Score Sheet which lists them, or by downloading a copy of the BMFA Scale Rule Book which also contains diagrams to show how manoeuvres ideally should be flown. These documents can be found on the website here https://wimbornemac.org/club-info/download/category/4-documents-handbooks
If any club member fancies having a go at some scale ‘flying only’ competition participation, please Peter Willis or David Tappin know. As the comp is a full blown scale event you will not be in line for any of the prizes but could gain some valuable experience flying in a properly judged competition.
