The Memorial Fun Day had to be put back to the 12th August as the 5th turned out to be a horrendous day of bad weather. It was a hard call for Matt and trying to predict the actual weather even one week ahead can be very difficult. Well the 12th turned out ot be a bit breezy at times, up to 18mph but the weather was bright and dry. After the pilots briefing at 10 am the first fun slot was the Climb n Glide. 30 secs of power the motor off, then stay up as long as possible finally gliding back to the runway. The breezy conditions would help too. Also present were invited guests who were members of the club when it was in it's infancy. Tony Lewis and Ian Matterface.
Wow, what can I say, what a great day that turned out to be. The sun was shining, there was a mild slight cross wind but nothing that couldn’t be handled ! It was great to see and catch up with so many Club Members, we hosted members from both the Christchurch and Wareham Clubs. It’s was also great to see lots of friends and family members coming along to enjoy the days flying. At a count, there were no less than 70 models on display and plenty of entertaining flying taking place throughout the day.
David died on Sunday 26th of February 2022 after having survived a close shave with a ruptured aorta back in January 2017 which led to open heart surgery as a result of which his driving licence was rescinded. That was a bitter blow for him, making him dependant on lifts from fellow club members which he found very difficult. In return for help with transport he offered a building, fitting out, fault finding and test flying service which was only partly successful and left him feeling very frustrated.
The Wimborne Model Aero Club held it’s annual Jet and EDF camping event over the weekend of 24th/25th September 2022. Whilst the weather gods were not entirely on side, with winds at times quite brisk straight across the runway and at other times turning a head wind into a tail wind whilst on final to land, a great time was had by all. The new brick built BBQ and the Berco boiler were once again pressed into good use on both days, with gateau and cheesecake puddings also on offer for those with a sweet tooth!
