All time great planes… was created by Chris001
As a newcomer to this hobby I often hear people mention the planes they have flown in the past, or wanted to fly, their eyes glaze over as they focus on the middle distance, remembering the golden age of Glow and transmitter aerials that were long enough to take someone’s eye out with, I guess that’s why the ribbon was tied to the end, for health and safety reasons ;-) Anyway, I then go home and dig around on the internet to see what sort of plane it was.

So I’d be interested to hear about some all time classic planes you’ve flown or still fly and have warm memories of. Photos would be great.

I do have a bit of an agenda, I’m warming to the idea of getting creative with some balsa.

Chris

2 I flew that are now available as kits from PB models

Bullet (40 size) or you could go to 60 size, Tornado, both originally by Crescent Models.

Chevron, available in 40 or 60 size, the original 40 size was a bit of a pig but the Chevron 60 was great, swept wing so looked great too.

Bullet front Chevron rear

Thanks Jon, I like the look of the Chevron, I think it's the swept back wings. Have you flown the Chevron Dave?

Phil is correct. Think the oldest thing I ever flew was David Tappin's biplane which I think he first flew the year after I was born.... I don't think I've flown anything truly 'classic' apart from Jon's Curare.

Child of the ARTF age unfortunately!

Oh no, tell a lie..... Had a 'Dalotel' for a little while. Think I was given that by someone in the club! But I was quite young

ARTF Anagram of FART which we all will be one day apparently, just add "old"

I have a dreaded feeling that.............................................. No, I'll be okay

It's okay Dave, I thought I was getting the "OLD" bit. ;)

When I t'were a lad we got 1 shilling (5p) on Saturday morning if I had been a good boy all week. Up t'shop and paid sixpence (2 1/2p) for balsa plane in a paper bag. A wing, profile fuselage and tail bits. Slide said items through slots attach elastic band and let go. Great!

The other sixpence change got me in t'cinema or a Mars bar if I could sneak in the back way.

(Some words have been edited to assist those from up Norf)
