Hi guys, so I’m fitting the FG-60 r3 in a Corsair. Should I baffle or will it be ok without. I see a lot of planes fitted with this engine without but thought I’d better check as radials are new to me.

i think it depends on the outlet area but if in doubt MMM sell these - I think Dave Bright has fitted one in his FG60

I'm not into I.C these days but for interest I keyed in Kevin's link,
baffle is made from 3mm light ply & priced at £24.95.
Simple enough to cut out with the right tools or one can support
this small business.

Colin.

For ease I bought the baffle linked above. Think it’s a good idea to give these things as much direct cool air as they can get.
I’ve also fitted cooling louvres (behind baffle) to pull the warm air out too. Make sure you’ve got a good size outlet for the hot air.

I’m hoping to run mine soon so will see what the cylinder head temps are like.

Thanks Dave, it seems as though getting the hot air out is as much of an issue as getting the cool air in. Interesting to see how others overcome this. I suppose I presumed that the Corsair has such a large, unobstructed opening that the baffle wouldn’t be necessary but I think it’s perhaps it’s actually the amount of open space that is the issue as the majority of the air can more or less bypass the engine giving no cooling at all whereas with the baffle, the air that gets in there is forced across the engine fins giving better cooling. I think I will go for the baffle. I like the way your’s looks as you can still see that lovely looking engine. Much better than the imitation engine which comes with my kit. Ok, I know it’s not 100% scale but neither are a few other features so no big deal.
