Faulty Ignition was created by Wingman1962
Need some advice.... Was planning to run my DA50 tomorrow but after a check over there seems to be no spark at the plug or plug cap. The battery is good and i have tried a different one and there is power going in to the ignition box. How can i test the unit to find out if its dead or if the plug lead is no good?. The previous owner said it was ok but he could say anything.
Any ideas on how to test it would be good. Thanks John

It might be worth just trying to run it John. I went through this with a DA120 a few years ago, couldn't detect a spark at all testing it with the plugs out, but when I actually tried running it, it was fine.

Not saying you haven't got a faulty ignition, but just try it.

I have one too, I find it invaluable as my RCexel ignitions do tend to break down over time - I live near Wimborne if Kevin is a bit of a trek for you!
The tester takes the place of the hall effect sensor and the rotary dial takes it from 0 rpm up to about 12K. I have found that the ignition units or possibly the HT lead often tend to fail at certain rev bands causing erratic operation of the engine and consequential random jet adjustments to try and compensate.

Been there John. My relatively new GP38. One day failed to fire at all. Re-kitted carb as it appeared initially no fuel. Kevin checked crankcase, carb again. Nothing. Chris M had it over his place and I supplied him with 2 spare DLE ign units. Both worked and engine ran fine. Up the field it would not start. Chris took it back again. Bypassed the ignition switch - it ran. Faulty or erratic Rxel switch!

Ive never had a faulty Rcxel ignition switch but guess its just a matter of time. However ive discovered Jeti offer an alternative product - twice the price but hopefully more reliable.
