Help needed please.

The last time I flew Chloe's Edge I noticed that I had to trim down a lot more than usual to get the idle low enough to land, on the ground the idle was all over the place. I stripped it down tonight and the servo seems to centre ok and all of the linkages are tight. There was a bolt missing from the manifold and the remaining bolt was loose, could this have caused the problem????

Yes Chris, the back pressure in the exhaust would be all over the place the flanges could have been covering the ports with the viberation. :(

If the manifold was loose enough to be blowing past the gasket, which it probably was, then yes that will affect the idle, as you are losing exhaust back pressure.

Edit. Frank beat me to it :)

Check the exhaust port faces for signs of hammering. When this happened to me I had to lap the face of the exhaust to get a decent seal again. Luckily the engine exhaust face was ok. I now use nordlocks and gasket sealant around the exhaust screws and things have remained tight so far.

IMHO - watch out for the carburettor arm butting up to the manifold/casting at tickover especially on DLE engines. Caught me out!
