Angel Landing Gear Mash Up! was created by Phil Ford
After an unsuccessful repair (lasted one landing) there was nothing for it but to cut open the fuselage and rip out broken formers and make my own. Because the gear tends to always want to pullout backwards I have redesigned the formers so the gear mountings are in line with fuselage rather across beam. F4 is a doubler to the original Sebart F3. F5 is braced with F6. The mounting plates are made out of triple liteply. Have picked up the fuselage using the legs temporarily attached and swung it around a bit. Still there.....

Not a pretty sight though....

Hi Phil

When landing the wheels will be forced back by the drag so the highest stress points (pulling out) on the landing gear plate will be as this picture

So if it was me I would bond your new former to the original former behind it (if you haven't already done this), fill the gap as the arrows here, otherwise it may just rip out the section of ply above the plate, I think you are saying you have only used light ply for this former as well?

I would also have removed the bottom sheeting in front of the mounting plate and extended the plates forward to bond with the next former forward, but it's a bit late for that now. Bonding to the original former should do it though. Hope that helps.

Yes Jon. F4 is bonded to F3 as per your comment. The mounts are also bonded to all 3 formers. Where the formers meet the battery tray they are also glued and filleted.

Edit: Did not use Liteply but Birch. Why I said Liteply I don't know...

Sounds good Phil just didn't want you to have to do it again!
