Most of your models must start first time ;)

This is the kit I got - new parts on the left old on the right. The new metering needle is way bigger than the OS part so is unusable, every thing else looks ok.

So far I've noticed that the fuel screen had a fair amount of grit in it but also the flap valves are very distorted compared to the new part - one valve leaf was not laying flat in the carb. The metering lever seems to be set a bit low but I'm not going to change that just yet. The reed block shows no sign of distorted or badly seated valves.

Anyway, fingers crossed onwards and upwards

Thanks Kevin, I think it's set too low at the moment so if I get lean running after the rebuild I'll reset it.

Floppy flaps on the pump section normaly settle when the engine is running. If the needle lever is not set correctly - that could be the problem. - I would adjust to the manual before proceeding.

I had flap problems with both the Hawk and the Spit and Simon had the same on his Corsair. Made for some heart stopping moments on finals!

So the carb rebuild had very little effect in the end. Setting the low end needle for good transition on the ground still leaves the low end too rich. It was still worth doing for educational purposes however and did reveal that even with 3 levels of filtering the carb fuel screen can still clog up.

One piece of info which my be useful is that I ordered the K20 WAT kit as well and that has both a large and small needle. I haven't tried it yet but it looks to be the right size for my OS 22.

...and it was 2 quid cheaper than the K10 WAT so I've saved even more money toward my Demonstrator replacement. Happy Daze.
