Started back on the vampire ,got most of the filling done.Hopefully if the weather plays ball tomorrow i can get the model outside and give it a final sand and a coat of resin.
I always seal the balsa with a coat of resin and flat out with 400 paper first otherwise if you don't the balsa can act as a sponge and leave dry spots when you lay up the glass cloth. While i'm on the subject of glassing a model you can lay up the cloth in two ways, some people like to roller a coat of resin on the model and lay the cloth on the wet resin or the way i like to do it is lay the cloth on the dry airframe and using a 50mm brush work the resin in, working from the middle out to the edge, using only enough resin to stick the cloth down and remove any excess resin with a credit card.Once it has cured i will go over again with the 400 paper and then apply a second coat of resin.
Never try and flood the cloth to fill the weave as you will end up with a ripple surface which will be a nightmare to sand back and get a nice smooth finish.Much better option to make sure the weave is full is to spray on a coat of high build primer and sand back, much lighter than resin and easy to sand back.
