I am a LiPo virgin. I can charge them up OK. I have read that you should have a voltage regulator between the ESC and the receiver, or "Emphang" as we now call it. Don't know how old the advice was.

Is this necessary/good idea/not necessary ???

Are ESCs now good enough to provide a regulated 4.8 volts? Without a programming card or any instructions whatever from HobbyKing, how do I set it??

If you are using the speed controller that I recommended you can just 'plug and play'. No need for any regulator...the ESC will provide (probably) 5.2V to the receiver.

Just for info, a regulator was required when using a LiPo as a Rx battery, in place of NiCd or NiMh 4.8/6.0V

I also wonder, Stuart, if the info refers to using a speed controller with a linear BEC? Nowadays, nearly all ESC's have switching BECs and can be run safely on 3s-6s lipo. In the old days, you had to disable the BEC and use a separate SBEC.

Either way, it's much simpler now.
