It does work. I used cling film over blue foam to make the carbon retract blisters for my venom wing.

An alternative to using cling film is baking paper. I made glass tubes for my Orcrist by wrapping baking paper around the carbon wing joiner. After wrapping it with glass I put heat shrink over the mess and once cured the tube came off the rod easily and the surface finish was smooth after the hear shrink was removed.
