Wrapped a bit of glass cloth round a piece of 22mm copper tube which I had sprayed with furniture polish and coated it with epoxy resin then wrapped it again with masking tape .
Problem getting it off this morning had to slit it.
Might try slitting tube so I can compress tube slightly or wrap the tube with selotape first and hope glue becomes slippy when heated so I can slide it off.
Any other ideas bearing in mind that fibre glass shrinks on curing

Experimentation! I looked at various carbon tube on my travels in Net Land. One version is pultruded - where the cloth is wrapped around a mandrel in a linear fashion. Then you get roll-wrapped and woven.
Then I have just looked at GRP tube www.engineered-composites.co.uk/products...178637-4b9eb8c9-756f and this may be the cheaper alternative to our projects John. Although at 20mm inside dia the wall thickness would be 2.5mm. Although there is no price given and stock lengths are 6 mtr but can be cut down for transport.

John, your idea of using ally tube sounds feasible too. Sticking on an ally backplate or washer to allow wiring out and you have a lamp unit.

Baldrick has a "Cunning Plan"

I have some litho plate which you could cut to the exact circumference and wrap around the 22mm tube. - then apply a ring of glass - but i think a better method wold be a spiral wrap of narrow cloth tape which can be stolen from the missus's sewing box. You could pre soak the tape or brush your "glue" through the cloth.

That appears to be a "cotton and polyester" roll wrap Kevin.
It would be interesting to see how successful DIY tube creation whether grp or carbon could be.
