Blimey Phil, what size of prop and spinner are you using on your Wots Wot?

He obviously didn't realise that Phil's is the ducted fan version.

A ducted fan version from the WOT stable..... Interesting thought!

My dear Gromit old chap, if you ever step up to real engines in your future flying "jigs" you will find it helpful to remove the prop and spinner before attempting to fit your cowl. As of 2016, I have not come across any reports of rubber cowls on the RC Meerkat which for all intent and purposes would avoid the laborious task of taking the prop and possible spinner off models for maintenance. ;)

As for turbine Wots Wot, I had considered using a Wren 44 turbo prop but this would require hacking the firewall again. Then there was still the issue of lengthening the cowl plus cutting two horizontal exhaust ports. I gave up on the idea when I realised that there would be virtually no cowl left. There again if it was not for the centre upper wing support , a turbine could have easily been mounted topside. This would also keep the pilot nice and warm in the melting acrylic canopy during Cashmoor Winters and de-ice the rudder and elevator surfaces. Of course we also have to think of the pilots health and breathing in unburnt kero and fumes would be tantamount to manslaughter.

However, in the monoplane Acrowot's case quite feasible.... :silly:

Dave, in response for Mr Tappin's refusal to use my full title "Baron Gromit III" and to go one further on your ducted fan version of a Wot, I give you the jet version: The Boomerang! ;)

Why is it always me that drags topics off topic?

The Boomerang is the quintessential jet trainer I'll have you know Sonny-Jim of dubious hereditary background (the word baron comes from the Old French baron, from a Late Latin baro "man; servant, soldier, mercenary").
Apart from not having a slot to stick your credit card directly into - the Boomerang is the perfect introduction to spending your hard-earned wedge in a futile way with ever diminishing returns whilst giving off the appearance of wealth and good breeding.
Whereas a WOT is simply the equivalent of a Wartburg or Trabant in a car park (cheap and practical - but embarrassing )!

Well! I joined WMAC with the general idea that I'd be among fellow model flyers. I had no idea at all that I'd be able to learn to spell properly, fix a reluctant engine, get a masterclass in rebuilding, and all sorts of interesting things that continue to bring lots of information as well as a great deal of amusement. I'd like to thank you all for the banter that's going back and forth.
It helps a lot when the temperature in my shed is hovering on zero and I have a couple of models that need a lot more TLC before they can be flown, makes me feel that it'll be alright in the end, and what seems like a real pain to fix, is after all, just another niggle to be laughed at. It never occurred to me that it might be possible to take off the cowl of an AcroWot without removing the prop and spinner, and as for Phil being all alone on the field and playing with himself...............mind boggling.
I'm sure that's what he wrote.

To remove cowl without first taking off prop. Use a rubber prop, just like the KK ones of yesteryear. When you ran the engine, the pitch went to zero!
