Advice gas turbine was created by Wingman1962
Hello. Looking to buy my first turbine model, got my eye on something but would like some advice on it before parting with my cash. If anyone can help that would be great.
Cheers John

Boomerang intro, boomerang nano, boomerang ?, Ripmax excallibur.
Go for a kerostart motor with low hours (<15) or recently serviced, e.g Jetcat P80, Jets Munts 80, Wren 80.
be careful of other engines as repairs/service might not be available.

Cheers thanks for that. The turbine I was looking at has been withdrawn from sale. It was an excalibur with everything installed, spark t12 turbine, braked electric retracts, all servos and Futaba receiver along with various other things like wing bags, a stand, fuel bowser and pump all for £3000. Does that sound like a good deal do you think.

I wouldn't say that sounds particularly cheap, I'm sure if you keep looking you'd find something similar for less money.

Hi Jon, thanks for those two links, I think the Boomerang would be the better option for me, it looks like it's ready to go and having no experience with turbines would be difficult for me to put one together without a lot of help. If I take the plunge would you be able to help me with it?
Cheers John

Of course, I'd be happy to help.

Do bear in mind though that under club rules you will have to do a separate flying competence test to be able to fly it on your own, anything over 7kg or turbine powered requires this. Having seen you fly your F14, I don't think you should have an issue with this though.

Oops better get that sorted out then, been flying my Corsair and my spit which are both over 7kg. What does the competence test involve?

I bought my Boomerang intro as a complete package for £900 about 6 years ago - I have put in several hundred flights on it and it is still fun and has cost me £40 for a new kerostart plug and 3 or 4 turbine battery packs (around £25 each). They are out there, but you need to jump on your bike when you see one - same with excalliburs.

Ok thanks for that, I'm in no rush so I will keep my eye open for a better price. Cheers
