A sad day. Last weekend I broke one of my film hinges during a 'hot' landing. I had to replace it and had the option of either re-covering a lot of the wing or to use a sellotape hinge. I decided to go for the simpler, sellotape hinge. After what was seen today, I will remove the other elevon and re-hinge with sellotape. I'll bring the model to the club night on Friday and demonstrate how to do a tape hinge for anyone who's not done one before.

BTW, let's not dwell on the negative for too long...Dave Rogers had a successful maiden despite a poorly centering servo. I'm not sure I would have wanted to maiden it in today's weather but he had a good flight and a perfect landing.

Looking on the bright side, Dave B definately won the 'most broken' award :)

Very sad news, hard luck Simon, Dave and Jon.

Maybe my little health problem keeping me home yesterday did me a favour. I'll be fitting Robart hinges to my unflown Impressivo today. No doubt there will be more drag with the open hinge line but if flat out with a sealed hinge = broken I can live with that.

As a matter if interest, did all three have their elevon horns on top like Jon's? I was a bit concerned about how weak the push rods seem and worried about them flexing in compression and allowing flutter. Mine are underneath like Mike's which has been reported as the fastest and, presumably, flutter free, but I'll be sleeving them with carbon tube to make sure they keep straight.

I'll admit, my hinging skills with film weren't great which was a major reason why mine went in. And yes, I believe all three of ours had top mounted servo linkages. We did comment yesterday on the fact we were asking a lot from a little piece of wire. Proper hinges and a more substantial servo linkages can't go a miss.
I thought I was safe having let everyone else bug fix last week! Combination of factors caused the high attrition rate...
