Chris,

After the barrage of insults and cutting remarks from certain people yesterday about the lack of progress with my Mythos I felt compelled to forgo the flying and enjoyment of your good company today, and see if I could make some small but noticeable progress with the Mythos... And progress has been made, not much grant you, but yep, things have moved forward... sort of. In between my procrastination driven innovative and studious building style, going forward, I flew my little helicopter, I think I could be tempted over to the helicopter world.

Back to servo arm screws, we have one vote for loctite and one no loctite vote... Phil I don't think JR servos come with instructions, just specs. Phil you said read the info on metal gear servos, is that on this site, or an external link?

Chris

I have never previously used threadlock on output screws and relied on the star washer. However I recently had an arm come off on the Sukhoi because the screw came out, luckily it was on one aileron and each has 2 servos, but on a single servo surface it could have been a big problem. I will now be using threadlock on metal output shafts. To me, risking a warranty issue is less of a concern then risking losing a model.

Oh and by the way, get on with it!!

I had a metal JR arm(star washer with centre bolt and clamp bolt) pop off an aileron servo in the early flights of my Sbach. I added a little blue loctite to everything after that and no issue in the subsequent 4 years.

Tales of servo woe might be indicative of lack of maintenance (I plead guilty too). Star washers flatten and aluminium and plastic squashes so it really should be a compulsory check that all screws are tight at the beginning of every flying session. Loctite (blue) may only mask the problem as a loose arm will soon strip its splines even if the screw doesn't come loose any more.

Not wishing to hijack an informative thread about Mythos Throws ;) I can own up to a tiny drop of blue on the Beasts rudder servo after the ally arm fell off. Never had an issue with hd plastic arms though, probably a tighter fit on the splines.

Make up your mind, you were the one that said not to use any :silly:
