Space is really tight for all of the components

1) It would be possible to use another motor but it would have to be the exact same size
2) I have some 2S 650mah batteries and you would not get anything any bigger in there
3) The recommended ESC only just fits
4) Fitting slightly different shape or size servos would be a real headache

I will bring it to Cashmoor on Saturday so people can make their own decisions on using different components, personally I would stick with the recommended parts

Thanks for the build info Chris. I'm going to use a "Hacker equivalent" from 4Max, everything else is the same spec. The front end looks very busy, apart from the vented spinner, is there any provision for cooling?

Hi Brian, there is no provision for cooling

I am going to use some sticky pads and try and tidy things up a little in the front, but there is so little room i think it just "is what it is"

I looked at the kit again. Not a lot for the money, especially when the postage is added.

Due to lack of support in a group purchase and the apparent difficulties in using alternative more cost effective hardware, i'm putting my plans on hold.

Can a Gurke be built from the plan supplied in the kit? Probably a daft question!. If the model could be built without using the laser cut parts, would anyone lend me the plan so that I could copy it ?
