Chris ln this day and age you need to be ambidextrous, use the units that are most convenient if the drawings in inches use inches. Most CAD systems will happily convert from one to the other. When I measure using a tape I use whichever division lines and stick with that system. Some of my machines are metric and others imperial I use a digital caliper to convert from one to the other.
Whats all this to do with Phase 5 Build

Not wanting to hijack a very interesting and intelligent build thread..................

Me too. when I am addressing "youngsters" I quote in metric and any not in that age group imperial. Never had a misunderstanding. ;)

The maths didn't quite add up, I'm 0.02mm out ;)

Impressed with your accuracy Chris, but must make one observation. Is clevis connecting screw thru the bell crank plain shank ? If its threaded to head it will wear very quickly and introduce slop.

That's really excellent job with the AMT Chris. You know it's Mike's copyright? Don't worry about a few thou out it will get adjust either way on the first landing.;)

Mike has mostly followed Chris Foss's plans, and I generally follow what Mike's done, because if he's deviated from the plan he's usually had a reason... But sometimes I go my own direction too, but that's not always worked out so well, like when coming in to land on a slope,Mike said turn one way, so I turned the other way and ended up having to walk to get my plane and then repair the tail

But John, it has everything to do with the Phase 5! All the measurements written on the plan are imperial, and they just don't mean anything to me  I envy you're ambidextrous abilities with measurement... Oh and digital calipers do 1/1000th of an inch, isn't that just a semi-metric halfway house :)

It is threaded all the way Kevin, any suggestions?

Thanks Kevin it is M2 10mm long, threaded section 8mm long.

I've found these, www.accu.co.uk/en/cap-head-screws/2776-S...ws/2776-SSC-M2-20-A2 the dimensions suggest 4mm of unthreaded section at the top which is perfect.

If I'd used CA it would have been done by now, but there is something nice about the slow pace of life that aliphatic glue encourages, it allows one to ponder the meaning of life, the universe and everything ;)

Unfortunately, plain shank M2 bolts are difficult to source.. Despite telephoning ACCU prior to placing an order for the very same screws, they arrived threaded to head. ! A subsequent telecom revealed they don't have any plain shank M2.

Using a threaded shaft in a plain housing goes against the grain for me. I would replace your choice of clevis with a std metal spring apart type with a plain shank pin.

Best engineering practice is not necessary on this model. Don't overcomplicate matters and create problems that don't exist. You'll be suggesting mitre joints next...

I had a list of things I'd hoped I'd get done on the Phase5 today, I managed one of them... nearly, it was only when I realised that my patience had totally run out and that my ability to do anything with care, delicacy or accuracy was now beyond me, that I decided to call it a day.

But before all of that, sometime last week I modified the bell crank box, Mike suggested I might want to increase the available travel, so I have, I can't get any more!
