Winter build project: Wolfgang Matt’s ATLAS

It's covered, thank goodness... a bit dodgy in places... but it's done, just some decals to go on, then I can start setting it up with all the electronics.

when he had great difficulty with the heat shrink film, his solution, cut it into strips & apply
mummy fashion. I maidened the model which flew really well .

When I see it fly It will be good to imagine my snakes up in the air at last after languishing for years in my stock of accessories.

Has it only been weeks I've been without a plane, it feels like months! I think it will be good to get back flying again, and testing those retracts out, I'll bring some spares to the field just in case

Colin, that sounds like a very sensible solution to the nightmare of covering.

David, your snakes are in pride of place running down the centre of the fuselage.

I really am very grateful for generosity of the members here, the help and advice I've received, and the bits of piece I've been given and lent to help me build this plane has been wonderful. Thank you.

Lets just hope all things now fall into place, and go together as intended, and I'll be able to get it into the air soon.

That was 'me' Colin. And the model still exists in same 'bandage' covering under the current ownership of Big Dave.

John - I was very carefull not to give clue to "Bandage" man's identity, good of you
to put your hand up, amazed Citaborea is still flying, is the Irvine 40 still pulling it round ?

The hinges are glued, hopefully they will still move in the morning when the epoxy has had time to totally harden.

Looking ahead I plan to set up the servos and control linkages tomorrow. I cannot find any control throw details for the Atlas, so I thought I'd take a look at the recommended setup for the Curare as that's got to be in the same ball park area.

In the aileron column are the two different measurements for up and down, is this differential?

And it seems there is a heck of a lot more down elevator than up elevator (H = High and T = Low)

Anyway, how does this sound for the initial set up of that Atlas:

Ailerons:
High rates: 15º up and down
Low rates: 12º up and down

Elevator:
High rates: 16º up and down
Low rates: 12º up and down

Rudder: as much as I can set without fouling anything.
