Mike suggested

Use a cigarette lighter

Shame on you Mike, call yourself a dedicated electrophile, fancy proposing the use of petrol to start the fire.

Shouldn't you just attach a well charged LiPo cell to the oily area and then touch the +ve and -ve wires together to achieve the desired result?

Chris - A bit more info for you.
Deluxe Materials sell a product called "COVER GRIP " it's a liquid which when dry is activated with
a warm iron & they claim it will allow covering materials to adhere to oil affected areas.
Worth a go & a lot cheaper than a recover job.

Use bicarbonate of soda (the cooking stuff), it soaks up oil and you simply scrape it of when it goes cakey and put on another layer. Totally worked for my old oil soaked glow models and should work for petrol residues too...

Needless to say, but I didnt go with Mike's suggestion

I used a hot iron and paper towel, then lightly sanded the area and sealed with thinned epoxy, seems to have worked ok

Nicely done Chris.

Did you seal down the edges of the film after covering, if so what did you use? I've used a Solar Film product called Clearcoat on my glow models in the past which has worked ok but haven't used anything on the Gas models.

Edit:
That's not true I've used it on my little Extra - it works ok !
