Chris, I have a couple of aileron linkage cover plates that might help. If it was me, I'd just build it as is.

Came across this aileron linkage on the flying wings website. Looks as though it wouldn't be damaged on landing.

Click on the link above, then select "video" . Takes a bout a minute to get to the aileron linkage.
