VE Day Warbird Fly-In – A Day to Remember.  The skies above Cashmoor were alive with the sights and sounds of history on Saturday 10th May, as we marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with our first-ever Warbird Fly-In The club pulled out all the stops for this special occasion. Over 70 scale warbirds took to the field, representing aviation from across the decades.

From classic WWII trainers like the Gypsy Moth and Miles Magister, to legendary fighters including the Spitfire, Mustang, and P-47 Thunderbolt, it was a celebration of both engineering and the enduring fascination with flight.

Larger models like the mighty Lancaster and Mitchell bombers, along with Cold War-era aircraft such as a ¼ scale T33 Shooting Star and a turbo-prop Pilatus Porter, brought even more variety and plenty of wow factor to the day. Despite some brisk winds, pilots rose to the challenge with skilful and entertaining displays that were enjoyed by all. At midday, we paused for a respectful minute’s silence to remember those who served particularly the airmen whose bravery played such a vital role in the victory being commemorated.

On the ground, the wartime spirit continued with a fantastic vintage-style street party lunch, full of good cheer, good food, and great company, a fitting way to round off a memorable day. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success, from setting up, flying, to supporting and spectating. And a very special thank you to Jo (Peter Willis’s wife) for sorting out the catering, which was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.
