Did the last job before maiden today, made the tray for the lead to get the correct c of g.Iv had enough of spending hours in the garage on the model,so will be leaving the exhaust stacks and cockpit fit out till later in the year.
I was looking on the tinternet over the weekend and came across an article on shiny hurricanes.Basically some pilots got the ground crew to polish the metal parts on the hurricane ,and they could gain upto an extra 5 mph which could be the difference between life and death in a dogfight. Anyway I like that affect so went to task on mine today

I can confirm that as the new apprentice aircraft fitter i was "awarded the privalige" of polishing our Piaggio P166 and advised that i would be assessed on the increased airspeed which was expected to be 3kts on normal max IAS 193. That was 48 yrs ago and I've never forgotten that B _ _ _ _ _ d foreman. - guess he was a Hurricane mechanic during the war !

Yippee the hurricane flew today,Many thanks to Jon T for taking on the job of test pilot in difficult conditions today, shame the motor decided to quit half way through the flight down wind and over the out field but Jon did a superb job keeping the wings level and only suffered a few scratches.
I have renewed enthusiasm now to finish the hurricane ready for the summer

Pete

This model looks great in the photos but even more brilliant to behold in real life. Inspirational craftsmanship to those of us who've never started from a box of wood.
The engine sounded sweet on the ground, shame it had a cough at not the best of times...
Will and try and get th vids up. hopefully JRI got some good inflight shots..

Look forward to seeing it hooning around, wheels up etc....

Photo's do not really do this model justice, it really does look great in the flesh, a fantastic piece of work Pete.

It was a real honour to be given the chance to do the maiden, although a little scary! It was all going really well until the engine suddenly started to fade and then cut. No one was more relieved than me to get it down relatively unscathed.

Can't wait to see it fully finished and flying with the retracts in B)
