To maximise resolution I use around 120-130% travel volume which leaves a bit of space for trim offset and adjustment, then set the mechanical linkage to give the required throw

That's interesting Jon, like Mike for years I've always started at 100% & adjusted mechanically,
on occasions finishing up with less than 100%
Just finished setting up a Sebart Angel 30 e & this gives +- 20 degrees for both elevator & aileron
& 30 degrees for rudder.
Surprisingly also says 40 % expo on ail & elv.

It's not super critical Colin, but you should always aim to be above 100% when you are happy with the response of your set up, if you are under, it is sensible to go in a hole on your servo arm or out on the surface arm and then increase the travel percentage, you will get the most resolution benefit that way.

I'm sure you will love the Angel 30, I had the 50 and it was one of my all time favourites, until my Dad blatantly flew head on into it with his Maule :) . Use the instruction recommendations as a starting point then adjust to taste. Set the deflections to get the maximum response ie fastest roll rate you need on aileron, then adjust the expo until it feels comfortable around the middle. Avoid using more than 40% expo other than if using 3D rates (not sure you will want that!) because you will find you get a sudden increase in response at around half stick movement with higher numbers than that.

As my previous post, set your rudder for as much movement as you can physically get before binding or clashing with the elevators, then add expo to suit, normally 20-30% expo is plenty for rudder set up this way. Look forward to seeing it!

Different radios will use different numbers. My MPX4000 has 100% as the default setting and 110% as the maximum. I don't know if this means the MPX 100% is more like 130% on a JR set-up, or if the JR is able to drive the servos further.

I'd like to be able to comment on the FrSky numbers, but Chris will understand why I won't!!

I would guess the former then, so 100% on yours would look to be the best value to set to. JR goes up to 150%

Thanks Jon, when I comes to setting up the geometry I'll increase the servo range as you suggested and try and get as much rudder movement as possible. The Spectrum also goes to 150. As to Mike and his Taranis numbers :S the short answer is the servo moves proportionally to the amount he moves the sticks, beyond that... Just don't ask ;)

Time warp - is it just me?

Jon posted the above message at 12.11 today. I just got an email at 21.30 telling me that this message was posted. That is 9 hours and 19 minutes after the event! I know you get what you pay for with domains, but that is incredibly slow. I don't think it is my AOL account per se, because I get notifications from other forums instantly. However, I'd be interested to hear if others experience a similar delay...and more importantly, is it something that can be done to reduce or eliminate the delay?
