Winter build project: Wolfgang Matt’s ATLAS

Looking at the current state of play, Mike has taken an early, yet strong lead, and after chatting to Steve and Phil yesterday, I'm possibly in second place, I say possibly because we don't know how John is getting on. Steve is gluing wood together and by the sounds of things the fuselage is taking shape.

Someone yesterday was having a go at me for making so many jigs to do simple jobs! Well, Steve, today I made a jig to drill a hole :woohoo:

I'm just dry fitting of the snakes and snake supports, I presume this is one of those jobs for epoxy, when I pluck up the courage to glue them in?

I would just get it all into position then run a drop of thin cyano in at each point, easy and light. I only ever use epoxy for high stress joints, engine bulkheads, wing bolt plates and the like.

Worth roughing up the surface of the snake at each location before gluing, no glue will take very well to the shiny plastic if you don't.

For some reason I've never be able to think of cyano as a proper glue, but it will certainly be easier to use it for this as it will wick in.

I think I used epoxy for my snakes because CA does nasty things to my nose, so I use it as little as possible. However, CA does have the advantage of wicking and being able to move on to the next job within seconds

Looking good Mike, not long now until its maiden flight I hope. Mine is still in its Kryten stage, but it's nice to see what it will hopefully look like. Any hints on the colour scheme, or are you keeping that close to your chest?

I really don't know...but will have to decide in the next few hours because I'm going to start on the wing tomorrow night if everything goes to plan.

My plan to start covering the wing went south due to a cold and general lethargy. But I've started now and should have it completed except for decals by the weekend. You can watch the progress on RCgroups
