Too true Pete, never thought of myself as a follower :)

The good thing about too much power is you can always throttle back!

I'm happy to leave the choice of all the technical stuff to the exsparks. My thanks go to Mike S for all the work he's put into the selection process (I forgive the thin wires!).

Let's get on with it before the prices go up.

David

OK. Time to get this thread back on track with some ordering. I'd love to treat you all to an early Christmas present, but the overdraft won't stretch that far. So, if you guys get the money to me by the end of November, I'll place the order on December 1st. For those with internet banking, you can send £69 to:

Account name: MJ Seale and JK Seale
Account number: 00867742
Sort code: 30-97-08 (Lloyds TSB Verwood)

Please add a note "WMAC" so my accountant will know what it is!

Or you can send a cheque to:

58 Howe Lane
Verwood
BH31 6JF

Regards
Mike

And I suggest you all place individual orders for motors, controllers, batteries, servos, etc, because doing a bulk order from HK tends to make little sense because they tend to bump up the postage pro rata with weight.

Motor

YEP 60A controller

Blue series 70A controller

I have not used either of these controllers because I had a spare Hobbywing 80A to use. But the YEP has good reviews and is argued to be a rip-off of the very well respected German YGE controllers. This is the one I would order. I've included the blue series because I have a couple of Blue Series 40A controllers and they are well made and see no reason why the 70A won't be as good. There are obviously loads more to choose from and you don't have to order from HK.

Battery

I've been using a 2200mAh 35-70C Nanotech for the tests. Use what you've got or buy any 3S 2100mAh to 2600mAh. The above is just a suggestion.

You'll also need a 4mm prop adapter. There are a few 4mm collet types listed here.

Prop adapters

The prop that appears to give a 'spirited' performance at a sensible current (under 50A) is the APCe 5.25x4.75. The low power 'formation' prop of choice is the APCe 4.7x4.2 which was measured at 35A. I got these props from Hobbystores in Southampton.

I can't comment on servos at the moment because without a kit to look at it is impossible to know how much room there is. I'm hoping that regular 12mm thick mini servos will fit so there will be loads of options.

Regards
Mike
