Last job before I reluctantly shut the workshop door's for Christmas are the underwing tank's/pylons.
Very strange from BVM is that the pylons are made up from ply and balsa and not f/glass.
Anyway first job is to drill 6mm holes top and bottom for the alloy guide tubes. Make up the pylons from 3/8 balsa and 1/64 ply and scribe into the wing tank and underside of wing. Once happy glue to the protruding alloy tubes.
Next job is make up the fins with ply core and balsa top and bottom. Cut mounting slots with a dremel and glue fins to tank sides
The fixing in the wing is a 6 mm threaded tube which will be epoxied in place and 4/40 bolts screwed up through the alloy tubes to secure.
Filling and painting will be next job

Sneaked a couple of jobs in today.. Cut the slots for the nose gear hinges, removed the single hinge pins and made up a full length pin. Roughed up the inside with some 80 grit and glued with med cyano

Next little job was the front f /glass inlet pipe.
This needs some extra strength but without any weight gain as the main battery and radio will sit on a ply plate on the inlet.
I marked it in four places and using 6mm carbon tow wrapping it around four times and then soak the tow with thin cyano.
This resulted in immense strength but no weight gain. It's worth a mention that this must be done outside as the fumes from the cyano are pretty horrible.

I thought you had 'reluctantly shut the doors of the workshop' already? :) this will done by Christmas Eve. John are you sticking with the cortex or saving overall space and going for a powerbox mercury?
