Hopefully the pictures tell the story. What you can't see is that I spray one side of the balsa to soften and expand the grain. This introduces a curve and also makes it easier to bend without splitting.

I had always soaked the whole piece both sides first. Maybe this was not necessary after all.

I'm not bending it to such a tight radius as you have done on your u/c fairings. And the balsa I have is balsa cabin soft/light grade which absorbs water very quickly.

All my balsa sheet is medium grade so that may account for easy splits if not soaked.

I didn't do much yesterday but did manage to fix the fin to the fuselage and also get the rudder completed. The top of the fin is sandwich of 2 sheets of light balsa with a 1/32 ply filling. This allows me to sand it down to a taper and a) retain strength and b) allows me to sand each side equally down to the ply
