A quick update on progress over the past few days. Lots of little tasks have been completed and were not photographed but the Rubin is nearly ready for covering.

Elevators will be controlled with two mini servos in the tail. Rudder will be a closed loop.

I was planning to do some vacuum forming and spent a several hours making a vacuum former. But the frame warped as soon as it went into the oven...so that was a waste of time - although I do now have a sanding box which will come in useful.

So the canopy is now going to be a fibreglass one painted black. If I don't like it I will revert to sourcing a canopy later. I did a much better job covering the canopy in parcel tape because I cut it into narrow strips that are much easier to stretch and go around compound curves.

Mike I know you are careful with cash ;) but I bought one of these albiet the A5 version to make nav light lenses and it is very well made. Wished I had ordered the A4 version. The Guy, Mike (another Mike) makes larger versions, you might be interested.

Thanks, Phil. I think my biggest problem was the plastic I was trying to use...a 2l bottle. This plastic has already been stretched in the blow moulding process and it shrinks and distorts the frame as soon as heat is applied. His biggest kit will only just do a Rubin canopy and is a lot of money for a few pieces of wood that I could cut myself. So, yes, I am careful with cash and won't be buying.
