I suppose I should get on with assembling the wing. After a trial dry fit it and verifying the rib alignment it was time to glue the trailing edge. Followed by CA medium on all the joints except the leading edge at the moment.  The leading edge was glued with Aliphatic.  I used my spirit level as a straight edge weighted down with a buggy battery to stop it moving. There are some small elastic bands also holding the LE back tight to the ribs via some pins in the top spar.

The day before I filled in the spar webs and I glued the sheeting to the bottom spar. The sheeting overlaps by 10mm.  The sheeting front edge was weighed down overnight using a spirit level. This would give it a starting bend (hopefully).  Today I glued the leading edge and used large hard balsa ailerons to keep an even pressure under the clamps.  A few coffees later I then glued the more sheeting over the centre and servo bays.  That's that for now till tomorrow for the wing.

Back to the fuselage, the landing gear ply is now glued in place.  An extra former was also made and glued to guide the servo control wires through the fuselage. Will trim as necessary once the tail is fitted.

Also glued an ESC mounting to the landing gear ply. This will raise the ESC capacitors clear of the landing gear wire and enables to easily fit cable ties to secure the ESC.

This morning I was horrified to find that some of the sheeting on the leading edge had expanded up at the centre join.  After pondering how to solve this problem and bearing in mind I am virtually out of 1/16th balsa sheet, so just enough for one go at it.

I will cut back to the first full rib, back to the centre of the top spar and partly on to the leading edge. I discovered that the balsa had not stuck to the 1/2 rib and the first rib.  That maybe was the problem.  The half ribs I think is crucial as it is the one that takes the load when pushing the wing into position.

Repair done. A little bit of filler required.  The wing now sits quite well in the fuselage. Solar Cover ordered and should arrive Tuesday so I get on with covering all the parts and fitting.

you could consider a thin bandage of glass cloth to reinforce the L/E sheeting joint. I covered mine anyway to provide a bit more resilience to the rubber bands

If you want some and going to Cashmoor  Sat let me know

Thanks Kevin but saw your post to late. Job done now anyway.  Fuselage underside completed - grain running crossways - more strength that way especially when picking up the model and holding it too tight.  I have made a hatch where the ESC cables enter the fuselage. Most of my stock of ESC's have relatively short power leads and the extension plug would be internal and difficult to access if the ESC fails or needs replacing for a bigger one. Should not think so as the one I have chosen from my stock is a ZDW Mantis 85 amp overkill. as the bullets are 3.5mm so matches the motor leads.  Me being too lazy to resolder leads.  The Ripmax motor Quantum 25 is 3541 1070 Kv. 3 to 4 cells. The X mount aligns perfectly with the pre-drilled holes in the firewall

Today, I thought I would get on with the landing gear as the wing covering won't be here today.  Saddles fitted but came to a standstill as the copper wire that secures the legs together will not solder. I have tried to two types with two fluxes but to no avail. I think I will have to visit a local man to weld 'em.

Rudder servo fitted. The Macgregor servo slides in neatly with no hacking of around 1.5mm of the mounts in the wing. I used the servo screws without anti-vibration rubbers. Screws are going through 1/4 balsa. Screwed in then back out, a drop of thin CA in the holes and back in again.

While some glueing of the wing tips to cure I thought what else can I fiddle with.  I fitted the ESC, paired up a spare receiver, created a model on my X20R. Plugged in a 3 cell lipo and found an APCe prop 11x5.5.  Full throttle shows 32.5 amps so just over 406 watts. Theoretically prop is turning at 12,500 RPM

Oh!  Knock on door. The wing covering has been delivered

Phil,

I think you're going to be a little disappointed with that motor. I've just looked at what I use and it's about 900w.
