I must commend those currently building the impressivos at the moment, some great pictures am looking forward to the maiden day.
Not sure if anyone is interested but I noted there was talk of launching systems the other week on the thread. Hobbyking sell a Pedal Operated Bungee Launch System priced at £15.75 and it's in the UK. It appears to include all the necessary parts required and has good reviews. Would love to upload pics but got into all sorts of trouble trying last time around trying to re-size pictures and what not so thought I would just give the info this time.
Am going to get one myself as building an EDF viper jet at present but wont be finished for some time so wont be testing the launch system for a while.
I must admit, I havn't checked whether the club object to a contraption like this but wouldn't have thought so as long as it's positioned at the edge of the field. Can someone let me know ?

David, I was all set to use some brass ferules because I had put the two aly things somewhere safe. Then I remembered where I had put them, so they are on, and seem to be well stuck. I guess filling them with solder then pushing them on with a hot iron has worked by mechanical means rather than chemical bonding. Might lightly crimp as well.

Aren't you the lucky one! I had to wrap up warm in the garage after glueing the bread board to the worktop. If this weather don't break soon I'll run out of models to build / maintain........... :(

I am a LiPo virgin. I can charge them up OK. I have read that you should have a voltage regulator between the ESC and the receiver, or "Emphang" as we now call it. Don't know how old the advice was.

Is this necessary/good idea/not necessary ???

Are ESCs now good enough to provide a regulated 4.8 volts? Without a programming card or any instructions whatever from HobbyKing, how do I set it??

If you are using the speed controller that I recommended you can just 'plug and play'. No need for any regulator...the ESC will provide (probably) 5.2V to the receiver.

Phil
Just for info, a regulator was required when using a LiPo as a Rx battery, in place of NiCd or NiMh 4.8/6.0V

I also wonder, Stuart, if the info refers to using a speed controller with a linear BEC? Nowadays, nearly all ESC's have switching BECs and can be run safely on 3s-6s lipo. In the old days, you had to disable the BEC and use a separate SBEC.

Either way, it's much simpler now.
