On the 25th November the annual Southern Area BMFA Balsa Brain Quiz was held and for the first time Wimborne MAC entered a team, the Wimborne Wonders, consisting of David Tappin and Peter Willis. The Balsa Brain quiz evening trophy is now 34 years old, and this event continues to draw support from many local clubs.

The venue used was the Hamble Social Club, which is also the home of the Firebirds MAC (A club co-founded by Peter Willis and Pat Parson back in the 1970s). This venue has been used for several years now by the Southern Area BMFA and always provides good hospitality, excellent food and great facilities to ensure that the evening is a success.

  • Slim Gregory Fun Day

    Slim Gregory fun day

2016 - The annual Slim Gregory Fun Day was a great success!  Weather behaved and many took the opportunity to come and fly, chat with old friends.  Great stuff!  David Tappin was the event organiser and he wrote the following article.

Cashmoor was in peak condition, the weather was excellent, there were well over 80 attendees, expert cooking was provided by Graham Tarrant’s parents, and some excellent flying took place. What more could we have asked?

Thanks to the efforts of around seven of our most club minded members, track clearance and site preparation during the lead-up had the field looking its best and the landing area, now officially christened “Frank’s Runway” was closely mown and used for every take-off (and most landings!).

  • Weston UK Hype

    hype

I recently acquired a Weston Hype 3D. It was brand new but with no box. I am not into 3D as such. No-one seemed to want it so I took it on as a  general "muck about" plane and it would be a shame for it to go to the bin which it was destined to be. After doing some research for a manual or some kind of guide it appears that there is not much on the "Tube" for these things although there were a few items for the Mini Hype but scarcely anything for the 60+ inch version. I found a manual but it was for a later version as the one I was looking at did not have a battery hatch or EP conversion mount. Neither were any control wire guide tubes installed as per the manual.  Oh No! What have I commited too?
