fabricate some balsa ducts

Pete, when fabricating the ducts don't forget that I want to get the turbine as far forward as possible otherwise there won't be enough lead on the roof of St Mary's Fordingbridge to get the C of G in the right place.

With the Simjet Kerry Sterner shows in position on the plans he told me that he needed over 3lb of lead in the nose.

Yes David i remember you saying about getting the turbine well foreward, your lucky you still have some lead left on your church
The ducts are not a problem as they can be fitted at any time from the inside so next time we meet up i will take the turbine with me

Dave B,I would love to get into the jet jockey world but can't see my limited modeling fund stretching to a turbine any time soon :(
I'm working on the underside of the inner wings today and will get some pics up later

OK then! Port and starboard inner wings have all the strengthening added.End grain balsa shear webbs to front and rear spars solid balsa block around the wing dihedral brace.Thin f/g sheet added to undercarriage Bay to add strength after the rib has been removed. I also added some.support to the wing tube socket and mixed some micro balloons with epoxy to form a fillet and leading edge added. The wing will now be sheeted and air brake, flaps and wheel wells cut and epoxy undercarriage mounts.

Constructed outer flaps and air brakes.Note the trailing edge drops away with the flap.As the trailing edge is sanded down to fine edge I am going to add spruce strip to add strength and avoid warping. Pictures show surfaces fully deployed.

Pete, what hinges are you using on the airbrakes? When those panels deploy at 100 mph there will be quite a pull on the hinges and with the worst case of one breaking away it would take a better pilot than me to recognise what had happened and take defensive action before loss of control ensued. I believe that was how Kerry Sterner lost his 1/4 scale version!

U/C bay's cut out, hardwood bearers going in with some balsa strengthening.
A note to rookie builders,as with any u/c mounts they need to be fairly solid but they need to rip out on a very hard landing as to not take the wing structure with it.I would also recommend not to bolt retracts in but use good quality self tappers.
