The B25 Mitchell has rarely seen the light of day since purchased back in 2014. It had it's maiden around that time by pilot Jon Tappin. It appeared again on a Scale Day, I think it was 2016 when it won best model flight. jon was the pilot and I was co-pilot. The Mitchell also made an appearance at Ferndown Fete back in 2019 flown by Jon Tappin. Years seem to go by so quickly and I thought it was time for me to complete a full flight. The dual batteries are GensAce 3300 maH 5 Cell 25C. I always date my lipos when I put them into service and these top notch lipos were dated January 2015. Cell resistances still only around 6 ohms.
With high winds forecast it meant there was another option for some club members. Slope soaring or combat wing flying where the lucky and the excellent pilots avoid having to go "walkies" to recover the downed wing. Lots of thrills and laughter at the expense of the less fortunate. The video was shot adhoc with a smart phone on the 25th March 2023. The combatants were Jon, Phil, Big Dave, Simon, Jeff, Chris and Mitch. Rob A did not attend for some reason. 😦 A few more would've been nice and there were some excuses which were not taken seriously............😀
On a sunny October afternoon in 2022 an alert went up to Scramble. Although there were only a small number of pilots on that day, we normally have many more. With hurriedly loaded Lipo fuel packs we are ready to go. A good launch and away for some close in encounters.
There around 10 Panthers, 4 Sabres and a couple of MIG 15s of the Freewing 64 mm EDF models at last count that are still flyable or maybe under going repairs due to combat damage.
Things happen very fast so your adrenalin flows and maximum peripheral vision required. Much mirth and excitement!
Wimborne MAC annual Memorial Fun Day 2022. Highlights of the Day. After two years of cancellations due to Covid and prior to that two years cancellations due to weather conditions we finally got our wish and a rather too warm but a sunny day with clear skies. General sport flying with slots for fun events. A big turn out of models and many were flown, some on their maiden flight. Warbirds a plenty as usual. Fun events were Climb n Glide and Timed flight trials, mass launch of the Panther F9F team and the final fun was the bomb drop, members having a choice of a golf ball or an egg.
After three years without our annual Open Scale Day due to weather and then Covid we finally held the popular event. The event landed perfectly with dry warm weather near ly cloudless skies but with a light Northerly crosswind. After quite long period of no rain the runway still had a good green colour. The earth banks around the field had quite high weed growth and this was cut down over a period of three days and the runway mowed on the Friday by John B. Another first was the full use of the BBQ at one of our events. Open Scale Day was advertised to local clubs and we had quite few from Salisbury MFC and Phoenix. As usual and expected we had a good number of warbirds at all scale sizes.
