On a sunny October afternoon in 2022 an alert went up to Scramble. Although there were only a small number of pilots on that day, we normally have many more. With hurriedly loaded Lipo fuel packs we are ready to go. A good launch and away for some close in encounters.
There around 10 Panthers, 4 Sabres and a couple of MIG 15s of the Freewing 64 mm EDF models at last count that are still flyable or maybe under going repairs due to combat damage.
Things happen very fast so your adrenalin flows and maximum peripheral vision required. Much mirth and excitement!
Wimborne MAC annual Memorial Fun Day 2022. Highlights of the Day. After two years of cancellations due to Covid and prior to that two years cancellations due to weather conditions we finally got our wish and a rather too warm but a sunny day with clear skies. General sport flying with slots for fun events. A big turn out of models and many were flown, some on their maiden flight. Warbirds a plenty as usual. Fun events were Climb n Glide and Timed flight trials, mass launch of the Panther F9F team and the final fun was the bomb drop, members having a choice of a golf ball or an egg.
After three years without our annual Open Scale Day due to weather and then Covid we finally held the popular event. The event landed perfectly with dry warm weather near ly cloudless skies but with a light Northerly crosswind. After quite long period of no rain the runway still had a good green colour. The earth banks around the field had quite high weed growth and this was cut down over a period of three days and the runway mowed on the Friday by John B. Another first was the full use of the BBQ at one of our events. Open Scale Day was advertised to local clubs and we had quite few from Salisbury MFC and Phoenix. As usual and expected we had a good number of warbirds at all scale sizes.
An attempt to make world record of as many model aircraft in the air at a preset time was to mark the centenary of the British Model flying Association. Over 200 clubs registered to take part. The attempt time was set as 15th May 2022 at 12 midday. British weather is unpredictable and the wind was blustery and a crosswind to the clubs runway. Grey clouds and intermittent rain. However, at minute to midday the rain stopped and the skies lightened with little patches of blue sky. We managed to get 29 models in the air from 27 pilots. Gliders up first high followed by an assortment for fixed wing and then followed by the EDF crew plus . A few seconds from midday the Lidl chuck gliders were launched. The flights were thrilling and everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun until batteries were getting low. Strangely no collisions in the air or on the ground where models were scattered around
The great looking Carf SportJet in Jolly Roger livery. Single Evojet 180 turbine, JetiCentral Box 220, Hitec Servos all round. Styled as the Eurofighter Typhoon. With added led lwing ighting to make it more visible especiall yon days like the day it was flown with overcast skies and intermittent Sun breaking through. This flight was not the first but not having had much sticktime on it Jiri is getting to grips with it's handling which is superb. Landings though have to be got just right, it wants to just keep going!
